Let me start by saying that this particular blog has nothing to do with animation, but instead pop-culture and entertainment, specifically the new emerging genre of the Hollywoodized mistaken pregnancy love story.
To keep it brief, mid-summer 2007 - the biggest Hollywood comedy was Knocked Up, a Judd Apatow flick about a career woman who gets impregnated by a stoner dude. The dude comes of age, the workaholic Mom-to-be falls in love, it doesn't all add up BUT it grosses a ton of money and is critically applauded by all.
Now it's the last month of the year and a film called Juno is soon to be released. Juno is yet another mistaken pregnancy love story, except this time instead of late-20's the characters are in their teens and the "love story" happens in high school.
Needless to say, the lead male in Juno is the kid from Superbad, which was of course created by the guys who brought us Knocked Up, which probably means there's some kind of conspiracy here - although, I really liked Superbad and both kids in it, plus McLovin.
I don't know what kind of trend in movie culture I'm spotlighting here, and maybe people have already noticed this connection in 07 - but I think this new genre of "mistaken pregnancy love story" is just plain weird.
I'm not saying put a stop to it, I just want to know why these movies are popular and what they say about us as consumers at this very moment in our dumbing-down history.
And as my friend Darius would say, I'm still retired.

Ha-yeah this is true.

saw this movie at sundance and it was excellent, dont label it into that kind of film when its actrually a very sweet story with original characters. see the film before you criticize it.
